Photography

A good eye for capturing images is important to any visual art medium.
I’ve always used the camera as a preliminary means to help determine how the photographic elements should best be framed. Though I’ve often provided the final imagery for a print or web piece, I find it necessary as a tool to guide the photography professional to get the shots I envision.

I’m in the habit of photographing things that are interesting to my eye. The smart phone has made it easy to capture and edit subjects that might later be used for some interesting creative project.

Outdoor, People, Food, Architectural, Still Objects and Humor are among the samples of my random photography.

Outdoor What I like about the outdoors is that even familiar things change with the weather. The 4 seasons in the Midwest are a perfect example of this.

People/Portrait Often a portrait is an image taken in a moment without warning or hastily posed by the subject in a flash of vanity. It can be interesting or personal because of the context it was shot in.

Food The meals my wife makes are very appetizing. I often take a photograph before I’ve had the first bite. Other food items are captured here also.

Architectural Buildings are an interesting subject for photographs. Structures tend to outlive people and so have been seen by multiple generations. Because of this longevity, there is a certain eclectic nature to architecture. Old and new juxtaposed.

Still Objects What makes some objects so compelling are their many details. Close-ups often separate those characteristics from the whole and give a more intriguing perspective.

Humor “Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.”  William James
